Woman crush Wednesdays – Catoinamsterdam!

Woman crush Wednesdays

This week we got in touch with the happiest fashion blogger in Amsterdam – Yup! You guessed it – Catoinamsterdam ! Her infectious smile and fabulous outfits brighten our day and we would love to give you a deeper insight as to why she inspires us here at Collectif! So without further ado…

1. What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
I went to London last month and on the first day I was wearing a skirt with a print of London buses on it. I have never been photographed so many times! At one point my son really had enough and kind of ordered me not to wear this skirt again the next day.
Next month we’re going to Paris. I’ve decided not to wear my Eiffel Tower skirt 😉
2. Your smile is contagious and you are like a ray of sunshine to our day! What makes you happy most of all?
Aww, thank you! What makes me happy the most is having a picnic in the park with my besties on a beautiful warm summer evening (I live in the Netherlands so these don’t  happen too often). A bit of wine, some tapas and I’m a happy girl. Close second is when my sons gets good grades in school! And of course dresses. Finding a new swing dress in a print I haven’t seen before makes me very happy.
3. What are your favourite three pieces from our summer collection?
The pompom trimmed black skirt and matching top: I wear them all the time. The gingham flared dress: I love that I can wear any colour with it and of course it’s my favourite dress shape. The lobster bag: I love novelty bags and this one is just so fun! Lobsters are really having a moment this summer.
 4. You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What colour would you be and why?
I think I would have to be that one special rainbow coloured crayon because I simply don’t have a favourite colour! I love all colours.
5. What is your go-to style from Collectif?
That’s an easy one: any fit and flare dress. I simply can’t resist these dresses and I’m always on the lookout for new fun prints.

6. We know you own over 180 fabulous skirts!! If you could estimate – how many flared dresses would you say you have?
I have to admit I did a rough count before answering this question, because I had no idea. There are around 120 dresses in my closet!
7. What would you like to see Collectif feature in the future?
For fall and winter I would love some fit and flare dresses with long- or three quarter length sleeves. And more novelty bags. Maybe some Christmas-themed bags or snowman bags?
8. When did your interest for 1950s fashion start and when did you begin blogging your outfits?
I have always had a love for 1950s fashion. Even in my teens, I wore vintage clothing from the fifties and sixties. I had a friend who’s mum was a model in the fifties who had an attic full of clothes which I could choose from.  I started blogging my outfits about 2,5 years ago. People always used to come up to me and compliment me on my outfit or ask my where I bought it, so one day I decided to show my outfits on Instagram. I started a website late last year.
9. If you could be a fictional character for a day, who would you be and why?
I would love to be Fran Fine from the Nanny: having a handsome millionaire falling in love with me while parading around in cute clothes.
Pom Poms10. Any words of wisdom for those new to wearing vintage fashion?
Try to incorporate modern accessories and/or hairstyles into your outfits. I find this makes you look more interesting than going for a total retro look.  And always plan and prepare your daily outfits the night before, even the underwear and accessories. This way you avoid a lot of stress, looking for that one belt or bra in the morning!
We couldn’t agree more with this advice! No one wants to be rummaging around early in the morning for that one specific bra – we’ve all been there!
Thank you again to Catoinamsterdam for taking part in our Woman Crush Wednesday’s segment and join us next week when we will be interviewing another fabulous and inspiring vintage lady!Love the Collectif team
