Mix & Match With Miss Victory Violet!

Whilst most of us love the vintage aesthetic and love to see recreations of fashion’s gone by, it’s also always exciting to see a fresh and innovative take on the 40s and 50s. In Collectif’s recent Spring/Summer Collection, we saw a brand new concept in the Talis range.

The Talis style is a hybrid of a playsuit and pinafore but with a sassy midriff cut-out and the ability to mix and match with both Talis and non-Talis items. Within the range, there’s 3 colours to choose from – solid Navy, Aqua and a navy stripe. Each colour has the standard Pinafore Top but there’s a variety of bottoms that can be paired with them – a Swing Skirt, Pencil Skirt, Shorts and Cigarette Pants.

All of the bottoms have a row of buttons at the front waistband which is how the Pinafore Top is attached to them. While this means that you can’t wear the top with anything other than another
Talis item, you have the ability to mix the bottoms with whatever you desire! The buttons look cute on their own or you can cover them up with the belt.

I love mixing and matching items together to create new looks and I knew that it would be fun to perhaps pair a longer sleeved top underneath the Talis Pinafore Top to create a different style and also for those situations where you would prefer to be more covered up.

I picked out the Navy Pinafore Top and Swing Skirt and created 3 different outfits with it using the Carly Cardigan as well.

Firstly of course is the Pinafore Top and Swing Skirt on their own for a flirty and fun look. I’m wearing my usual size 10 in the top but actually found it to run a little big so it could be worth trying the size down. If you aren’t sure, you can always stick with your usual size and move the buttons over at the back to tighten it if needed.

Next, I added the Carly Cardigan underneath the Pinafore Top which gave it a completely different look but I really like the effect! Because of the open sides and back of the top, you’ll need to make sure whatever you are putting on underneath is a tight fit and tucks into the skirt well to ensure a smooth line.

And finally, I removed the Pinafore Top to demonstrate how easily the Talis Swing Skirt (or any of the Talis bottoms) can be paired with a regular top. The skirt is a lovely shape, ultra full and a great length. It’s light but holds it’s shape well without a petticoat and a plain navy skirt is such a versatile piece for in your wardrobe.

Since there are so many other great items in the Talis range, I decided to create a couple of moodboards demonstrating further how easily you can create different looks with them…

I love the Aqua colour and picked out Pencil Skirt and Pinafore Top and the middle combination was especially fun to put together – who doesn’t love a little bit of mermaid style, right?!

Combination Two: Coloured Bead Necklace, Adella Shell Bag, Lulu Hun Dorothy Block Heel, Lucy Mermaid Cardigan, Talis Plain Pencil Skirt
