CollectifDecember01 (2)I do so love the Christmas season! The family meals, nights out with friends, fairy lights and cheesy traditions are all such fun! For most, December means a very full social calendar and therefore some pre-planning needed for outfits! It’s an expensive time of the year, there’s no doubting that so for most, buying multiple outfits just isn’t feasible. However, it is lovely to be able to splurge on one special outfit whether it be for Christmas Day itself, your work Xmas party or just because you deserve it!

In these situations, one must think carefully about getting the most out of your purchase. Ideally, you want to be able to get a lot of use out of it, not just wear it once and have it end up sitting in the back of your wardrobe. This is where I feel like separates come in useful! If you can buy a few separates then you can easily mix and match them together with other items in your collection and potentially even get use out of them across all seasons!

Collectif always have a fantastic range of skirts, tops, cardigans and sweaters. When I was thinking about a December Christmas outfit, I wanted to create something that was glamorous and sophisticated but also warm and a little bit festive!

If I had to pick one colour that describes Christmas to me, it’s definitely red. So, I chose Pietra Faux Fur Collar Cardigan (restocking soon – select your size and click ’email me when back in stock’ to be kept in the loop!). With it’s adorable black heartCollectifDecember06 (1) shaped buttons and fur collar, this cardigan ticked all my boxes- glam, cosy and a little bit Christmassy!

CollectifDecember02 (2)To match the Pietra Cardigan, I chose the Rosie Quilted Velvet Swing Skirt. The lush velvet worked perfectly with my theme and I’m a sucker for any kind of textured fabric. I love that this skirt comes with a matching belt and belt loops to hold it in place. These little details in a item really seal the deal for me!

I’m a big fan of a well-poofed skirt so underneath I’m wearing a Malco Modes Samantha  Petticoat in Red which not only looks fun when a glimpse of red is seen, but also acts as extra insulation to keep your legs toasty. Collectif do of course have their own red petticoat, the Maddy, available here.

Now of course in winter, you don’t just get the cold but you also get the rain and even snow depending on where you live! Neither of those are good for your hairdo but a quick fix for that is to simply arrange your hair in a low bun or gibson roll and add a chic hat. It’ll survive the whatever the weather throws at you and you’ll still be looking fabulous by the end. I adore the Lucy Hat for a more dressy look but if you’d like a more casual option then try the Carrie Beret.

For a bit of extra sass and since the bow on the back of these heels is such a statement, I also wore the What Katie Did Contrast Seamed Stockings in Red GlamouCollectifDecember07 (1)r. Finally, I finished off the look by adding the Velvet Heart Earrings and Claire High Heel by Lulu Hun and a selection of bangles from my personal collection.

Of course if you are living in a colder climate, then this isn’t quite going to be warm enough, so you’ll be needing a toasty coat. The Pearl is my all time favourite coat style from Collectif and the Textured Black version is so versatile. The faux fur collar can be fastened right up to keep your neck warm and the sweeping skirt is full enough to be able to wear a petticoat underneath. Be CollectifDecember03 (3)prepared to get A LOT of compliments when out and about as this coat is a real showstopper!

Add a pair of leather or wool gloves (these were my Nana’s) and a decent sized handbag that can hold a small umbrella and a even a spare pair of flat shoes in case of treacherous icy walking and you are set to take on Christmas in fabulous winter style!

Here are my other favourite separates for December, perfect for not only keeping warm but all pieces are also very versatile so you should be able to get a lot of wear out of them!
