Miss Victory Violet’s Autumn Picks

With the season of cozy knits, hot tea, twinkling lights and toasty coats fast approaching, I’ve starting switching out my floral items for rich autumn hues and one of my favourite things about the winter fashion season… Tartan!

I love the ease of a tartan garment. There’s usually several colours within the pattern, making it a versatile piece that can be layered with various options. Tartan can have a casual feel but also looks great more dressed up and it’s a fantastic way of still wearing bright colours while in keeping with the winter aesthetic. Collectif have always done tartan well in the autumn/winter season and this year is no different. There is a huge range of tartans and plaids on offer, across so many styles and silhouettes.

One of my favourites is the Amber Evergreen Check Swing Dress. The mid-length sleeves are ideal for transitional weather and it can easily be layered as the temperatures continue to cool.
Featuring a classic scoop neckline with a flared skirt, this simple silhouette is the perfect canvas to show off a busy print like this tartan.

I’m wearing my usual Collectif size 10 in these pictures but I actually found the Amber Dress to run a little big and could probably have sized down to a 8. Bear in mind when selecting your size that there is no stretch to the fabric. Also please excuse the wrinkles – my trusty steamer decided to die on me!

As mentioned before, I think this is a perfect dress for layering as winter descends. A easy colour to pair with this particular tartan would of course be black, but I liked the idea of adding more green into the mix. The Andi Knitted Bolero in green was the perfect addition and I feel like the design of this bolero is just a little less casual than a standard cardigan. The sleeves on the Andi Bolero come to just above my wrists and the velvet necktie is such a lovely touch. The tie is removable and the bolero has a hook and eye closure so there’s room to perhaps jazz it up by adding a brooch for something different too.

To further accessorize with the winter layering theme in mind, I added the Carrie Plain Beret in Cream. You could also do a black or green hat but since there is a creamy/white colour in the tartan of the dress, I thought it was a nice touch. When accessorizing with multiple colours (in this case I have black, green and cream), I think it’s important to remember to carry that colour at least twice within the outfit. So for instance, with the addition of the cream Beret, I then made sure to add a similar coloured bangle, brooch and earrings.
